The barb of wit is sort of dulled by the fact that this IS pretty much what happens to Archie.... they've been stuck at sixteen for what, fifty years now? Perhaps the point is that Quesada is trying to turn Spider-Man into another crappy perpetual-teen Archie style comic?

The hambuger head is the gag, not the point of the comic. On that regard, I totally agree with you. It's damn funny.

Definitely agree, Mike.

Also, Alex...I'll have to agree to disagree with you on this. I don't understand: "The reason why “Brand New Archie” loses impact is that the Archie story itself is having it’s cake and eating it too as it’s not a ‘real’ story'", specifically. Can't seem to wrap my mind around how that would impact the punchline with a hamburger headed jughead.

Jamie, it looks to me like a big part of the strip is trying to convey the point that there are some long time followers of Spiderman that view the whole OMD/BND as a literal step backwards for Peter. That, indeed, part of growing up is accepting the good and the bad things that happen. You take your licks, and muddle through the events as best you can. The reason why "Brand New Archie" loses impact is that the Archie story itself is having it's cake and eating it too as it's not a 'real' story. Thus, what's the difference in the Spiderman story and they Archie one? By making a story that isn't 'real', Archie totally gets out of having to deal with the consequences of said story. Neither have truly grown up, hmmmmm?
