I hated that cover so much. It wasn’t the one I remember seeing solicited either. It really seemed like the folks at DC were just laughing at the fans who were responding negetivly to yet another death for the Titans. That and its the laziest cover imaginable.

I definitely agree with you. Meaningless deaths might be more realistic, but that doesn’t mean jack squat from a storytelling perspective.

Heh, makes me think of the X-Men and their ever-resurrected roster. Jean Grey’s the most obvious, but there have been the death of Cyclops, Collosus, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Banshee, Psylocke, Prof X etc. Heck, even Wolverine’s ‘died’ on several occasions.

First of all, the Green Lantern Ch’p was killed when he was run over by a (yellow) truck.

And secondly, don’t be stupid. It’s IRRELEVANT whether meaningless and lame deaths are “realistic”. They’re still meaningless and lame, and at the end of the day, that’s not good storytelling. Fiction has the prerogative to be unrealistic when it improves the story.

you could say that sometimes thats how death should be treated in comics. meaningless, disrespectful, and worthless. Because thats how some people die, even loved heroes. I’d like to see some heroes die from getting hit by a bus in their civilian identity…cause it has to have happened at least once.

Ah, you hit the nail on the head and out of the park in one comic.

I’m really starting to dislike the “checklist”-oriented storytelling going on, leading to token deaths being part of any dramatic storyline. Marvel’s doing it too. There’s already deaths lined up for X-Men: Second Coming, and some of Bendis’s deaths have been just disrespectful and meaningless.
