I’ve had the pleasure of talking to Jim Shooter for a while at one of the local comic cons. He’s very passionate about the business and especially had kind things to say about Marvel. DC….not so much, considering we were talking about Legion of Superheroes. He outlined his plans to me for the last issue in his run (which they ended up having ghost-written, and he never even bothered to read).
He described DC to me as ‘suits and ties, guys who didn’t want people on the bus to work to know they made comics.’ He said Marvel was more casual and that everyone dressed like they were about to go paint a house.
I’ve always found his history and notoriety in the business to be fascinating. You would think that, even if she’s not a big fan of superhero comics, Marissa would find that facet interesting, too. Of course, getting through Josh’s emails to the relevant stuff may be a trial.
I’d be interested to hear if Jim has had anything public to say about Northstar’s wedding.
the only time I ever thought Northstar was interesting was when he died and came back as an agent of the Hand/Hydra alliance back in Wolverine: Enemy of the State and Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s such an uninteresting character, I really don’t give a crap if he’s gay or not cuz I don’t give a flying fuck about Northstar one way or the other.
I dunno if this works, if only because I was a reader back in Shooter-era Valiant. Among other things, his character Pete Stanchek (“Sting” on Harbinger) was going to eventually realize he was gay and X-O Manowar had a flawed but sympathetic gay character.
“He was like THIS in the past, so he must ALWAYS be like that and must NEVER be forgiven, EVER!” is an attitude I just don’t think works, in-character as it may be for Josh.

no one cared about northstar until the gay marriage

I disagree. I quite like Northstar, it’s just always seemed a shame that he never got many appearances.

Ok so “almost” no one cared about Northstar until the wedding. He was just a low rent Quicksilver anyways.
