It’s the Geoff Johns syndrome, Marvel finally caught it. It’s a slippery slope towards retconning characters to suit the current ideas then ignoring these changes to suit the next changes.
See, I don’t think it’s even that. That I could understand, at least there’s a goal behind it.
But stuff like this, and the recent Wolverine/Romulus story by Jeph Loeb, seem to be introducing huge, stupid changes with no intention to ever refer to them again. And that simply baffles me.

I hate to be “that guy”, but honestly…you read a comic book with Jeph Loeb’s name on it. You have no one to blame but yourself.
