SPOT ON! I can’t believe how douchey comics fans can be. Give the girl a break and maybe reserve judgement until the movie actually comes out. Stop basing eveything on looks and give her a chance. Maybe she’ll win you over with her ACTING!! lol
I actually had a problem with their choice for Harry Osborn. I mean, the guy from Chronicle? Really? But then, how is anyone going to live up to James Franco? The man’s an Adonis.
Travis: I read your comment as “HEY THEY’RE POINTING OUT THAT A LOT OF COMIC BOOK FANS ARE RAGING SEXISTS THAT MUST MEAN THEY HATE ALL COMIC BOOK FANS NOW A DURR DURR DURR!” If I missed anything, please let me know.
A lot of the comments here kind of prove the point of this strip – including the ones saying the actress IS attractive. Women are not, by virtue of existence, contestants in a beauty pageant, and you are not, by virtue of being male-identified, the judges.
Oh, and Travis, I never got the impression that the target demographic of this strip was sexist pricks.
benfromcanada: I humbly suggest you could have missed “sarcasm” from Travis’s comment. BUT it’s only an opinion and that’s the internet and it’s always difficult to tell.
Anyway the only thing more sexist than the reaction of the “fan’s” has been the real reason behind the casting.
Discovered that a large part of the money of the last movie came from girls lured there by Andrew Garfield they decided to cast a less flashy actress that should not make them feel as too inadequate for good ol’ Parker. Let’s talk about that ,Marissa ;p.
This is a thing? I mean, I know nerds can be catty fucks, but are people actually calling this Shailene Woodley woman unattractive?
If you told me you thought she ought to be forcibly introduced to a cheeseburger I’d agree, but calling her PLAIN is … I’ll be charitable and just call it stupid.

Are people actually saying Shailene Woodley’s ugly? I mean, she’s fairly cute.

Does people in your local cbook store talk like that?

I was wondering the same thing. I get people saying that about Anne Hathaway to a degree but have trouble imagining it for the new Mary Jane girl

I want to see a Marissa-punching strip next, so bad…even if it’s just a fantasy.

I worded that badly. I want to see a Marissa-punching-OTHERS strip badly.

And that’s why we have this.

So you just hate the people that you used to write this strip for huh?
March 19th, 2013 at 3:22 am
We pretty much hate everybody. If we’ve been too subtle about that over the years, it was completely unintentional.

I think a lot of this stupidity is coming from that one unflattering photo where her neck looks wider than her head. It’s a very unfair judgment.
